Oleochemicals - MalaysiaCognis Oleochemicals (M) Sdn Bhd (COM)COM is Sime Darby’s 50:50 joint venture company with Cognis Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, Germany. Headquartered at the Peremba Square, Saujana Resort, Shah Alam, Selangor, COM manages the overall administrative functions of its international affiliates in the Americas, Europe and Asia since August 2006. When established in 1989, COM was involved in the production, marketing and sales of fatty acids, fatty alcohols, glycerine and associated products. In November 2005, its business scope was expanded with the transfer of Cognis’ global oleochemicals, plastics technology and ozone acids businesses to COM. The expansion has resulted in the expansion of Sime Darby Plantation’s overall downstream operations to the United States, Canada, Brazil, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan and Hong Kong. Golden Hope Bioganic was established in 2002 to venture into the nutraceutical industry, leveraging on the company’s experience in oil palm plantation and taking advantage of the nutritional benefit of palm oil. Golden Hope Bioganic is mainly involved in the manufacturing of Gold Tri.E – a tocotrienol-rich palm oil extract. Tocotrienol is a type of Vitamin E which is 40 to 60 times more potent as anti-oxidant than tocopherol – the regular type of Vitamin E that are found in nuts, leafy green vegetables and fortified cereals. Research shows that tocotrienol is highly beneficial in the prevention of cardiovascular conditions, cancer, skin-related conditions and many other degenerative diseases. Gold Tri.E tocotrienol is used in the dietary supplements, nutraceuticals, functional foods and cosmeceuticals. It is available in liquid and powder forms. The powdered tocotrienol is more versatile for use in dry mixes such as dairy and other powdered products.
