Social Issues

  1. Social issues emerging in the estate is to be initially dealt with by the management of the respective estate.
  2. Upon failure of the first step, the matter will be forwarded to the Head Office.
  3. The Head Office will deploy an independent investigating team to gather sufficient information (time frame of the disputes, the areas involved, parties/people involved and the outstanding issues) through interviews and focused group discussions.
  4. A formal Social Impact Assessment will be carried out at the respective area.
  5. The information gathered will be presented to the top management of Sime Darby Plantation for further direction.
  6. A negotiation involving the respective estate management, representatives of the disputing parties, zone heads, third parties and stakeholders will be carried out.
  7. Upon failure of the negotiation, legal proceedings may follow.

(The chronology of actions taken may differ from one case to another whereby negotiation and legal proceedings may be carried out interchangeably or simultaneously, whichever deemed suitable)
